Downloads Page: Back track to Adobe 7.0 - pdf viewer for winXP if for some reason your having problems with a newer version. At the time of this webpage update 8.0 is available. Safety tools: Microsoft Windows Defender - A new tool from Microsoft, it's more aggressive than PestPatrol I recommend this over PestPatrol now, but PestPatrol is still a good spyware deterrent. If the initial download doesn't work go to http://support.microsoft.com and in the search put in "defender", you should come up with this download, it is also now included in some of the Microsoft OS. PestPatrol - scans your hard drive and identifies spyware and will remove it if you choose to do so.. PestPatrol Updater - After installing Pest Patrol, you HAVE to do the update or Pest Patrol will not work. MailWasher - pre scans your email and helps you identify what you want to bounce as Spam or just delete before opening up your Email Client (Outlook Express), helps eliminate tracking emails from reusing your email address if you delete them here instead of in Outlook Express. ZoneAlarm - Firewall protection You can use the FREE version and it works just great! It will help stop anyone from hacking into your system, it will help stop "tracking" cookies and websites from visiting your machine through your IP address, which slows your machine down. Just one more way to protect your machine. You can set it to notify you of updates if you register the software, I recommend using this and registering this! Download this sheet for ZoneAlarm helps. There are lots of virus' and other harmful things on the Internet these days, you need to be careful that you don't gunk up your machine with hidden tracking software, cookies etc. These are just a few ways you can do that. I also recommend a good virus protection software. Norton (Symantec) is good, so is McAfee but you have to remember to update the files once a week at least! Run scans at least once a week also! Always knowing what your downloading and installing is IMPORTANT!!! Lots of free screensavers have hidden software or virus' in them that will add tool bars to your web browser or just hide on your machine and track your usage (which also slows down your computers performance). When you install things watch carefully and don't just zip through and say yes to everything, READ what you are installing on EVERY step! Google toolbar is a good example, lots of things will auto-install that now unless you uncheck a box before the download or install. |
